this morning" from super bowl park at jackson square, new orleans. we want to get right to some breaking news from turkey. >> that's where a suicide bomber set off an explosion outside of the u.s. embassy this morning. mark, good morning. >> good morning, charlie and norah. the news is recent and somewhat contradictory as to what has happened place. there has been an explosion, it appears, at the side entrance of the u.s. embassy in turkey. there are two reports of deaths involved. one says a suicide bomber. another says two have died at this. one agent in turkey say these were turkey security employees. this appears to be a side security gate to tell bacy. the staff in the embassy, we're told, are in a lockdown now, not responding to phone calls at this stage. the embassy in turkey, by the way, with a lot of u.s. embassies under the threat in the islamic world, this embassy does not come under one of those to be a prime security threat. the explosion appears to have been sizeable enough to damage the security gate at the side of the embassy but no damage from the initial picture, anyway, to

>>> welcome to "cbs this morning" from super bowl park at jackson square new orleans. we want to get right to some breaking news from ankara turkey. >> as you were sleeping in the west, a suicide bomber set off an explosion outside the american embassy, killing himself and one other person. mark phillips is in london. mark, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, norah, charlie. the attack is said to have been by a suicide bomber and took place at one of the security guards to the embassy building. the actual attack was captured in this cell phone footage. the bomber seems to have self-detonated inside the guard building, blowing the door off its hinges. turkish security guard was killed. there was at least one other serious injury outside. the main embassy building does not appear to have been damaged. none of the staff there hurt. the u.s. ambassador offered his sympathies to the family of the guard. >> from today's event it's clear we both suffer from this terrible, terrible problem of today's world and we're determined after events like this only more to coopera

today. we've been taking a lot of cabs from our hotel into jackson square and the french quarter and we've been talking to a lot of the drivers and they're saying that there could be a brief work stoppage today and that's because of some regulation grievances the taxi cab drivers have. obviously that would have a crippling effect on mobility in a city that is pushing tourist capacity, about 150,000 people are expected to be here, and i can tell you getting a cab is difficult already, so if a significant number of cab drivers were to strike even for a few hours it could cause headaches for a lot of people and everywhere we go we need a cab so we would be in trouble. it was a little tough this morning when i left the hotel to meet these guys for the live shots. hopefully they get it all worked out and we'll have to i guess see what happens. >> and later in the show you're going to get your fortune told or something like that. >> reporter: well, frank, i was told when it comes to new orleans, you have to enjoy seafood, you have to take a carriage r

. andrew jackson basically ended its charter. there's a long history of mistrust in parts of the united states about the central bank and what it does. back in the derickson and hamilton days, a lot of the farm state bankers did not trust the first bank of the united states. -- back in the days of jefferson and hamilton. there is a federal reserve board in washington made up of seven governors and chairman who is ben bernanke. then there are 12 regional fed banks. they're all part of this federal reserve system. the regional fed bank, every chartered bank of the united states has to pay in capital to the federal reserve banks and in return they get a dividend. but these are not banks the way we think of commercial banks. the federal reserve bank of new york is not like citigroup out there trying to earn big profits to return to shareholders. their job is to manage the money supply. it is also to be a lender of last resort in a crisis, which is what the federal reserve did in 2007. when there is a run on a bank, when depositors flee the banking system because they are scared their money
